Islamabad:President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Islamabad Capital Territory Safe City Camera and Surveillance Infrastructure Protection and Damage Compensation Ordinance, following advice from the Prime Minister.
According to Radio Pakistan, this ordinance is designed to safeguard Safe City cameras and the surveillance system from potential damage and to ensure appropriate compensation if damage occurs.
The ordinance allows for the imposition of financial penalties on individuals who damage Safe City cameras or surveillance infrastructure, as well as those who instigate or encourage such actions. Organizers of rallies, processions, sit-ins, protests, strikes, or gatherings may also be held accountable for any damage incurred during these events.
An authorized officer will determine the amount of the fine and the cost of the damage after providing an opportunity for a hearing. Those affected will have the right to appeal the decision regarding fines or damage costs before the District and Sessions Judge in Islamabad within thirty days.
