Turkmenistan Set to Access Gwadar Port, First Among Central Asian Nations

Islamabad: Turkmenistan is poised to become the first Central Asian country to gain access to Pakistan’s Gwadar port under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan and Turkmenistan are preparing to formalize this new phase of cooperation with an upcoming agreement. A special committee has been tasked to review the draft agreement focused on connecting Gwadar Port with Turkmenbashi Port, enhancing the regional connectivity under CPEC.

This development aligns with ongoing collaborative efforts, including the TAPI pipeline project, a rail track initiative, and enhanced fiber connectivity aimed at strengthening ties between South and Central Asia.
