Islamabad: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al Shaibani underscored Trkiye's role as a key partner in Syria's reconstruction during his official visit to Pakistan. He highlighted the significant border and historical ties between Syria and Trkiye as foundational elements for collaboration.
According to TRTworld.com, al Shaibani commented on the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, signed by Trkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, stating that Syria was still considering whether to join the alliance. He emphasized that Syria's decision would come at a later stage and reiterated Trkiye's importance in the country's rebuilding efforts.
Al Shaibani also addressed potential interactions with Iran, stating that Tehran must first acknowledge its actions towards the Syrian people. He acknowledged Pakistan's role in facilitating dialogue between the US and Iran but noted that Islamabad had not yet offered to mediate between Syria and Iran.
During his discussions in Pakistan, al Shaibani described his visit as successful, citing agreements to reestablish a joint ministerial commission, maintain direct flights, establish a business council, and organize an investment forum. Regarding Syria-Israel relations, al Shaibani maintained that it was premature to discuss a strategic agreement due to ongoing Israeli attacks.
