Traditional Bull Racing Thrills Spectators in Rural Punjab

Islamabad: A traditional sport deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of rural Punjab, continues to thrive as bull racing events draw large crowds and celebrate Pakistan’s vibrant heritage.

In the sun-scorched fields of Attock district in eastern Punjab, hundreds of spectators gathered recently to witness thrilling bull races, a sport that has been passed down through generations. The event captured the raw energy of village life, far removed from the structured arenas of cricket and hockey in urban centres.

According to Radio Pakistan, in this centuries-old sport, two powerful bulls are fastened together with a heavy wooden frame and race down a dirt track. Standing behind them on a wooden plank, the rider – holding only ropes for support – steers the bulls at high speed, creating dramatic scenes of dust, danger, and determination.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Haseeb, a local race organizer, said bull racing is more than just entertainment. It is a cherished tradition and we take pride in our animals.

The races are a reflection of Punjab’s rural lifestyle, highlighting values of honour, strength, and community spirit. They also serve as a form of social gathering, where villagers unite to celebrate a shared cultural legacy.
