SIFC Playing Key Role in Promoting Energy Self-Sufficiency

Islamabad: The Special Investment Facilitation Council is playing a key role in promoting energy self-sufficiency and advancing Pakistan's oil and gas sector. Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Pakistan is developing a strategy to increase domestic production in order to achieve energy autonomy.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan's Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) is actively implementing measures to boost local production. The OGDCL has set a target of producing 865 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, reflecting a five percent increase in output. The company is also working to raise crude oil production by fourteen percent, with a target of reaching 40,000 barrels per day.

In response to global market uncertainties, the OGDCL is exploring greater utilization of local resources to strengthen energy security. Energy expert Muhammad Arif stated that the growing reliance on national oil companies due to the current economic crisis will help reduce oil and gas imports.
