Senate Condemns Israeli Bombings in Gaza, Calls for International Action

ISLAMABAD: In a resolute move, the Senate passed a unanimous resolution condemning Israeli bombings in Gaza, expressing deep concern over Israel’s actions against Palestine and other countries. The resolution, introduced by Sherry Rehman, highlighted the Senate’s alarm at Israel’s exploitation of regional instability to further its own agenda, which now extends beyond Palestine to include violations of Syrian sovereignty.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Senate strongly condemned the killing of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) team members and criticized recent Israeli legislative measures that threaten the agency’s mandate. These measures, the Senate noted, could severely impact access to crucial services for Palestinian refugees and threaten their right of return as recognized under international law.

The Senate reported that since the beginning of the current conflict, 44,612 Palestinians have been killed, with 105,834 injured, including women and children. The resolution also condemned the
targeted killing of over 180 journalists and the destruction of critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and schools, during Israeli bombings in Gaza.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause, the Senate emphasized its commitment to a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with Quds al-Sharif as the capital of an independent Palestine. The resolution called on the international community to take decisive action to protect Palestinian lives, hold Israel accountable, and ensure compliance with international humanitarian law.

Meanwhile, the Senate also addressed domestic political issues, urging reconciliation among political parties. Jam Muhammad stressed the need for national reconciliation, while Irfan Siddiqui called for an end to confrontational politics. Ali Zafar advocated for open dialogue, and Sherry Rehman emphasized negotiations without preconditions. Other lawmakers, including Aimal Wali Khan, expressed concerns over misleading actions by political leaders.

The Senate will
reconvene tomorrow at 10:30 in the morning.
