Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam has called for strengthening cooperation and adopting sustainable practices to ensure protection of marine ecosystems.
In a statement on the occasion of World Ocean Day being observed today, she said as a country with a rich maritime heritage, Pakistan recognizes the vital role that oceans play in supporting life on Earth.
Romina Khurshid highlighted the initiatives of Mangroves restoration in Pakistan which have resulted in 300 percent increase of mangroves since 1992.
She emphasized the urgent need for collective action by all stakeholders to address the challenges threatening the oceans and urged all nations to implement effective policies, and adopt sustainable practices to ensure the health and resilience of ecosystems for present and future generations.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to global efforts for preservation and protection of marine ecosystems.
