Islamabad:Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing its partnership with the European Union, focusing on the full implementation of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister discussed this commitment with President of the European Council Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen during a meeting on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The discussions reviewed the full spectrum of Pakistan-European Union relations, with leaders expressing satisfaction at the increasing momentum in high-level exchanges. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of leadership-level engagement to provide greater direction to the relationship.
Highlighting the significance of the GSP Plus for Pakistan's economic development, employment, and trade with the EU, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan's commitment to continued engagement under this framework. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, stressing dialogue, diplomacy, international law, and peaceful resolution of disputes.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to the Presidents of the European Council and European Commission to visit Pakistan, expressing his desire to work closely with the EU leadership to further deepen the partnership.
