President Calls for Urgent Measures to Minimize Food Loss in Distribution and Consumption

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has made an urgent call to action for reducing food loss and waste occurring from production and storage stages to the distribution and consumption phases. He emphasized the importance of this initiative in his message on the occasion of the International Day of Zero Waste, being observed today.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari underscored the current challenges faced by households struggling with tight budgets amid persistent concerns over food prices. He highlighted that reducing food waste is intrinsically linked to the daily wellbeing of ordinary citizens. The President pointed out that wasted food also signifies the loss of vital resources such as water, land, energy, and labor that are invested in producing it.

President Zardari further noted that as an agrarian economy, Pakistan needs to give special attention to the losses experienced between the farm and market. He stressed that reducing food waste demands a continuous and concerted effort spanning farms, markets, institutions, and homes to ensure sustainable management and consumption practices.
