Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to continue the Workers’ Remittances Incentive Scheme to facilitate the remittance of overseas Pakistanis to Pakistan. In a statement, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of hard-earned remittances from overseas Pakistanis in the development of the nation.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to prioritize the immediate release of funds for the Workers’ Remittances Incentive Scheme. He highlighted the crucial role of overseas Pakistanis as a strength and valuable asset to the country. In the fiscal year 2025, the remittances from overseas Pakistanis were pivotal in achieving a current account surplus for the first time in fourteen years, reaching a record high of 38.3 billion dollars. This influx not only aided in covering the rising import bill but also contributed to increasing the foreign exchange reserves.
Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the significant contributions of overseas Pakistani workers and businessmen in the nation’s development and progress through their remittances. He assured that the government is actively working to remove obstacles hindering the remittance process and is committed to making the system more efficient and user-friendly for hardworking Pakistanis living abroad.
