Islamabad: Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has announced that Pakistan's implementing legislation and ratification process for the Singapore Convention on Mediation is progressing steadily and will soon be tabled before Parliament. He made these remarks while virtually addressing the Singapore Convention Week 2026.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Tarar emphasized that Pakistan became the fifty-eighth signatory to the Convention in May 2025. He expressed optimism that once ratified, the implementing legislation will make mediated settlements reached in Pakistan enforceable across all fifty-seven signatory states, ultimately providing greater certainty to foreign investors.
The Minister further explained that Pakistan's decision to join the Convention is a strategic move aimed at reducing litigation risks, safeguarding commercial relationships, and bolstering confidence in Pakistan's investment environment. He stressed that the country's commitment to the Convention reflects its dedication to demonstrating that the rule of law serves as an economic asset, rather than merely a legal formality.
Tarar extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Law, the Government of Singapore, and the Singapore International Mediation Centre for their invaluable guidance and support throughout the process.
