Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government's commitment to eliminating tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and malaria from the country. He was talking to a delegation of the Global Fund, led by Head of the Grant Management Division, Mark Edington, in Islamabad today.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the delegation and expressed the government's dedication to combating these diseases. He emphasized that Pakistan highly values its partnership with the Global Fund and appreciates its significant contribution to improving public health across the developing world. The Prime Minister highlighted that the Global Fund is a key partner in strengthening Pakistan's healthcare system and noted that its support is vital in reinforcing the country's efforts to eliminate HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.
The Prime Minister also directed the formation of a joint working group between the Government of Pakistan and the Global Fund to further strengthen efforts aimed at preventing the spread of HIV. During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of National Health Services briefed the delegation on the government's ongoing measures to prevent and control TB, HIV, and malaria in Pakistan.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its hospitality and acknowledged the measures being taken to eliminate these diseases. The delegation, which also included Senior Portfolio Manager Izaskun Gaviria and Deputy General Counsel Natasha Heffinck, reaffirmed its continued partnership with Pakistan in support of these health initiatives.
