Pakistan, Switzerland agree to strengthen bilateral ties

Pakistan and Switzerland have vowed to strengthen bilateral friendship and explore opportunities for mutual cooperation in diverse fields.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday, of Pakistan-Switzerland Friendship Group having representatives in the parliaments of two countries.

The meeting emphasized the need for enhanced parliamentary exchanges to deepen understanding and collaboration.

The Swiss delegation was given a tour of the Parliament and briefed about its rich history. They also visited Nathiagali to explore Pakistan’s scenic beauty.

The Pakistani side expressed concerns over the recent incident of desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden. The Swiss delegation underlined that Switzerland has a diverse population and freedom of religion is a fundamental right there.

The two sides discussed a host of issues including climate change, situation in Afghanistan and human rights violations by Indian forces in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani side reaffirmed its commitment to support girls’ education in the region.

The Swiss delegation was briefed about important initiatives like Parliamentary Caucus on child rights and Women Parliamentary Caucus.

The Pakistani side was represented by Senators and Members of National Assembly while the Swiss delegtaion comprised members of Swiss Parliament.
