Islamabad: Pakistan announced its active involvement in facilitating discussions between the United States and Iran aimed at resolving their ongoing conflict. Pakistan expressed optimism that both nations "will return to table for dialogue," as stated by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi during his weekly media briefing.
According to Deutsche Welle, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 26th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which took place from August 31 to September 1. This meeting underscored Pakistan's commitment to promoting dialogue between Iran and the US.
Additionally, the spokesperson highlighted the significance of Pakistan's Chief of Defense Forces, Asim Munir's recent visit to Tehran. The visit was part of Pakistan's strategic efforts to mediate the US-Iran conflict, focusing on critical issues such as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Andrabi noted that the visit "generated momentum" on various fronts, furthering the prospects for dialogue and resolution.
