Islamabad:Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at curbing illegal activities.
According to Radio Pakistan, the agreement was reached during a meeting between Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and British Minister of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Stephen Doughty. The discussions took place in Islamabad and focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in areas such as illegal immigration, counter-narcotics, and counter-terrorism.
Both sides emphasized the importance of implementing joint and stringent measures to prevent the use of fake student visas for travel to the United Kingdom. The meeting also addressed the situation in the Middle East and acknowledged Pakistan's role in the region, highlighting the necessity of continued diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.
Additionally, the progress of the Joint Working Group over the past 90 days and future strategies were reviewed. The discussions also included the border situation with Afghanistan. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stressed the need for strict scrutiny in cases of Pakistani students traveling abroad with fake visas, while noting that the Anti-Narcotics Force had intercepted 55 metric tonnes of drugs destined for the UK.
Stephen Doughty, the British Minister of State, commended Pakistan's robust actions against online fraud within the country.
