Pakistan and Trkiye Reaffirm Commitment to Achieve $5 Billion Trade Target

Istanbul: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's resolve to further strengthen its time-tested strategic partnership with Trkiye. He addressed a joint press stakeout with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister highlighted the extraordinary bond between Pakistan and Trkiye, which is rooted in centuries of common history, shared faith, mutual sacrifice, and brotherhood. He acknowledged Trkiye's unwavering support during Pakistan's difficult times, including wars and natural disasters. Shehbaz Sharif praised President Erdogan's leadership in driving Trkiye's economic, technological, and strategic progress.

The discussions between the two leaders focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and industrial collaboration, with a reaffirmed commitment to reaching the $5 billion bilateral trade target. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for regional peace, referencing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as a testament to this shared belief.

Prime Minister Sharif also voiced Pakistan's support for Trkiye regarding the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and expressed gratitude for Ankara's consistent backing of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

President Erdogan congratulated Prime Minister Sharif and the people of Pakistan on their efforts in the mediation process, acknowledging the global relief following the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He condemned attempts to undermine the agreement and Israel's continued attacks on Gaza, reiterating Trkiye's commitment to regional peace and security.

The Turkish President announced ongoing work on a Special Economic Zone in Karachi for Turkish investors and discussed expanding bilateral trade. He encouraged greater Turkish investment in Pakistan and highlighted defence cooperation as a key element of their economic relationship. Both countries are committed to enhancing cooperation in energy, transportation, critical minerals, and information technology.
