Pakistan and Russia Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Cooperation

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar engaged in delegation-level talks with his Russian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, to discuss and enhance the bilateral relations between the two nations. The discussions highlighted a broad range of cooperation fields and reiterated both countries’ commitment to further deepening their partnership.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting covered the “entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation” and acknowledged the significant progress in Pakistan-Russia relations over the past two decades. The officials agreed to engage in robust dialogue and enhance cooperation across various sectors including trade, industry, energy, connectivity, science, technology, and education.

During the talks, Deputy Prime Minister Dar conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to intensify bilateral, political, economic, and defense dialogues with the Russian Federation. Both sides also consented to continue their coordination on multilateral platforms, including at the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Additionally, Dar appreciated Russia’s support for Pakistan’s bid to join BRICS, a major step toward integrating Pakistan further into global economic dynamics.

The meeting also concluded with a mutual agreement to maintain close cooperation in all areas of shared interest, underlining the commitment of both nations to transform their bilateral relations into a strong, mutually beneficial economic partnership. This aligns with the visions of Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Vladimir Putin, aiming to solidify the foundation laid by strategic dialogues and recent interactions between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk’s visit marks a significant step in pursuing this enhanced partnership, reflecting the mutual interest in capitalizing on the positive momentum gained over the years.
