Jeddah (OIC-UNA) The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the liberation of the Iraqi town of Rawa from Daesh and the expulsion of the terrorist group from its last military stronghold, which bodes well for turning over the group's page in Iraq.
OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen reiterated the Organization's full support for Iraq in its fight against terrorism and its criminal objectives to instigate strife, fighting and extremism. He also stressed the importance of eradicating the terrorist group, in order to reunite all segments of the Iraqi people and preserve Iraq's unity, security and stability.
The secretary general called for the need to address the crisis of displaced persons and facilitate their return to their homes as well as to protect the safety of Iraqi civilians. He further affirmed the continued efforts of the OIC to convene Baghdad National Reconciliation Conference (also known as Makkah II), with the view to achieving comprehensive national reconciliation among all components of the Iraqi people.
