Karachi, In a significant breakthrough in the energy sector, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the operator of the Mari East Block (100%), has successfully discovered natural gas at the Chak 214-1 exploratory well located in the Rahim Yar Khan District of Punjab Province, Pakistan.
The Chak 214-1 well, which was initiated on June 29, 2023, using OGDCL’s in-house expertise, reached a depth of 1851 meters during drilling operations. The remarkable achievement was confirmed through wireline log interpretations and the execution of Drill Stem Tests (DST).
The first DST, conducted in the Dunghan Formation, revealed an impressive yield of 1.1 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of natural gas, utilizing a choke size of 32/64″ and achieving a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 230 Pounds per Square Inch (PSI). Subsequently, the second DST, carried out in the Sui Main Limestone (SML) formation, delivered an even higher yield of 1.31 MMSCFD of gas at the same choke size, accompanied by a WHFP of 260 PSI.
