Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has felicitated the newly elected office bearers of CPNE.
In a statement, she said journalism and freedom of expression are the essential constitutional requirements to strengthen democracy.
She said the role of CPNE for the stability of democracy and promotion of freedom of journalism is commendable.
She said the coalition government not only fully believes in media freedom but is also taking steps to promote it.
The Information Minister said the government always gave priority to the resolution of media related issues.
She expressed the hope that newly elected office bearers will use their experience and skills to lead CPNE towards further improvement.
Federal Secretary Information and Broadcasting Sohail Ali Khan and Principal Information Officer Mubasher Hassan have congratulated the newly elected officials of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors.
In a press release, they expressed good wishes for newly elected office bearers of CPNE including President Irshad Arif, Senior Vice President Anwar Sajdi, Secretary General Ejazul Haque and others.
Sohail Ali Khan said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has always prioritized media freedom. He said media institutions in Pakistan had significantly improved and became more responsible as compared to the past.
He said role of media gained more importance during the current era of information technology.
In his felicitation message, the PIO said the CPNE is an organized body. He hoped that newly elected body would play its due role in solving the problems of journalists and maintaining standards of journalism.
