Journalists Witness Manufacturing of Holy Kaaba’s Kiswa

Makkah: A delegation of over eighty journalists from Muslim countries, including Pakistan, visited the King Abdulaziz Complex in Makkah to witness the manufacturing of the Kiswa, the black cloth covering the Holy Kaaba.

According to Radio Pakistan, Correspondent Abdul Rehman Cheema reports from Makkah that the covering (Kiswa) of the Holy Kaaba is replaced every year on the 1st of Muharram. After its removal, the old Kiswa is cut into pieces and distributed among visiting dignitaries and Islamic organizations.

The Kiswa takes almost ten months to complete at a cost of 25 million Saudi Riyals. It is crafted from high-quality silk imported from Germany and Italy and is embroidered with Quranic verses using gold and silver threads.

Our Correspondent notes that the journalists observed every stage of production, from silk dyeing and weaving to detailed hand embroidery. Meanwhile, the delegation also visited significant religious and cultural sites, including Mount Arafat, Muzdalifah, Jamarah, the Makkah Clock Tower Museum, and the ongoing expansion of the Grand Mosque.

The visit was organized by the Saudi Ministry of Media and the General Authority for Media Regulation in collaboration with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites to showcase the Kingdom’s efforts in serving pilgrims and developing the holy places.
