India to Bolster Security with Additional Forces for Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, India is set to deploy an additional 450 to 500 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in Jammu and Kashmir, ostensibly to enhance security for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, an annual Hindu pilgrimage. This substantial increase in military presence is announced as part of preparations for the pilgrimage, which is expected to draw large numbers of devotees.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence on June 29 and will continue until August 19, spanning a period of 52 days. The first batch of pilgrims is expected to leave from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on June 28, while pilgrims from the Baltal and Nunwan base camps in Ganderbal and Anantnag districts will begin their journey on June 29.

Officials have indicated that the deployment of the additional paramilitary forces will begin around June 20 and conclude by June 25, ensuring that all arrangements are in place well before the start of the pilgrimage. The army will also be positioned at several vulnerable points along the route, including the cave shrine of Amarnath in the South Kashmir Himalayas, to bolster security further.

This enhanced security setup underscores the authorities’ focus on maintaining peace and order during the significant religious event, amidst the complex security dynamics of the region.
