ICCI Delegation Engages in Trade Expo 2023 in Indonesia, Eyes Enhanced Bilateral Ties

Islamabad, The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) is presently marking its presence in the 38th Trade Expo Indonesia Hybrid Edition 2023. Led by Vice President Engr. Azhar ul Islam Zafar, the delegation is attending the Expo at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition Centre, Jakarta, running from October 18-22, 2023. Organized by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, the Expo spans a wide range of categories from digital services to healthcare products. Concurrently, the delegation held pivotal discussions with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) to foster direct business engagements between the Pakistani and Indonesian private sectors.

According to a news release by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), During the meeting, Vice President ICCI, Engr. Azhar ul Islam Zafar, highlighted the substantial business potential between the two nations, referencing the 2021 bilateral trade figures of US$ 4.3 billion. He emphasized Pakistan’s notable palm oil imports from Indonesia, suggesting avenues for Indonesian investors to explore palm oil cultivation within Pakistan, given its annual edible oil consumption of about 4.5 million tons. He also identified potential sectors ripe for collaborative efforts, such as tourism, IT, e-commerce, and textiles. Expressing his belief in the efficacy of consistent trade delegations and Expo participations, he called for these to realize the full bilateral trade potential of both nations.

Further echoing the sentiment of enhanced collaboration, ICCI members proposed various initiatives to strengthen ties between both private sectors, aiming at reciprocal benefits.

Iben Rifa, Vice Chairman of KADIN Indonesia, reciprocated the warmth, identifying Pakistan as a non-traditional but significant trade partner for Indonesia. He accentuated the potential of fortified economic ties between the two countries and voiced his support for a lasting collaboration with ICCI. Assuring his commitment, he stated that KADIN Indonesia is geared to collaborate with ICCI, fostering networking opportunities and laying the groundwork for sustainable business partnerships between the private sectors of the two nations.
