Govt Implements Measures to Broaden Tax Base and Transform FBR: Aurangzeb

Washington: Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb recently participated in a panel discussion titled “Revenue Mobilization in the Medium Term,” organized by the International Monetary Fund during the 2025 Spring Meetings in Washington. During the discussion, Aurangzeb emphasized the initiatives being undertaken by Pakistan to expand its tax base and enhance the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Aurangzeb outlined several key strategies aimed at boosting revenue. These include increasing the tax contributions from critical sectors such as agriculture, real estate, and retail and wholesale industries. Additionally, the government is focused on transforming the FBR, strengthening enforcement and compliance measures, and implementing customized audits through the use of artificial intelligence.

Aurangzeb also highlighted the significance of building trust between the tax collecting agency and the citizens, suggesting that this relationship is crucial for successful revenue mobilization. The minister’s remarks reflect Pakistan’s commitment to improving its financial systems and ensuring effective tax collection.
