Govt Announces Fruit Tree Planting Initiative Along Motorways and Highways

Islamabad: The federal government has unveiled a new initiative to plant fruit trees along the country’s motorways and highways, aiming to combine environmental benefits with economic opportunities.

According to Radio Pakistan, the plan was finalized during a meeting in Islamabad between Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik and Minister for Communications Aleem Khan. This initiative involves private investors leasing land for climate-appropriate fruit plantations, structured on a three-year model.

Dr. Musadik Malik emphasized that by involving the private sector, the initiative seeks to enhance the green cover, create economic opportunities, and contribute to Pakistan’s climate goals. He also stated that the Ministry of Climate Change would provide technical support, including assistance in securing carbon credits.
