New York:Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has urged the transformation of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) into a more integrated, dynamic, and competitive region within the global South.
According to Radio Pakistan, while chairing the 27th Informal Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers in New York, Ishaq Dar highlighted the importance of revitalizing regional cooperation to bolster the collective ability to face geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges.
Pakistan has taken on the chairmanship of the ECO Council of Ministers, and Ishaq Dar emphasized the country's commitment to advancing ECO's long-term vision while delivering tangible outcomes for the region's population. As chair, Pakistan intends to prioritize trade and economic integration, trade facilitation, connectivity, transit, and climate resilience.
Ishaq Dar also stressed the necessity of reviving regionalism and strengthening resilience to build a more integrated and prosperous ECO region. He called for stronger political commitment and institutional reforms within the ECO, including streamlining the ECO's secretariat and affiliated institutions to ensure their mandates and structures remain adaptable to changing geopolitical and economic conditions.
