Death Anniversary of Renowned Painter Laila Shahzada Observed

Islamabad: Thirty-first death anniversary of renowned painter Laila Shahzada was observed on Sunday. Laila Shahzada, who was born in Littlehampton, England in 1926, made significant contributions to the art world with her focus on themes such as Buddhism and the Indus Valley Civilization.

According to Radio Pakistan, Laila Shahzada studied painting at the Drawing Society in London and was one of the first women painters in Pakistan to gain international recognition. Her work was exhibited in major cities across the globe, including London, Paris, Tokyo, and New York, establishing her as a significant figure in the art community.

Laila Shahzada was honored with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in 1984 for her contributions to the arts. Additionally, she holds the distinct honor of being the only Pakistani to have received the “Key to the City” award from New York. Her legacy continues to inspire many artists around the world. She passed away on 20th July 1994 in Islamabad.
