Islamabad: The 29th death anniversary of legendary singer and Qawwal Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was observed on Sunday. Born in Faisalabad on October 13, 1948, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a pioneer of fusion music in Pakistan. He was the first musician to blend Eastern and Western musical styles and introduce Qawwali to audiences around the world. According to Radio Pakistan, his name was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for having recorded the most albums by a Qawwali artist, with a total of 125 albums. The Government of Pakistan conferred the Pride of Performance Award on him in recognition of his remarkable contribution to Pakistani music. He was also honored with the prestigious UNESCO Music Prize. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died on this day in 1997.
