Islamabad: The 20th death anniversary of renowned painter Ahmed Saeed Nagi was observed on Tuesday. Nagi was a significant figure in the art world, known for his contributions to painting and his participation in the freedom movement.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ahmed Saeed Nagi was born on February 2, 1916, in Amritsar, where he also received his early education. His educational journey extended to Lahore, Delhi, and Paris, which greatly influenced his artistic development. From 1944 to 1947, Nagi played an active role in the freedom movement, a period that marked a significant chapter in his life.
One of Nagi's notable accomplishments was painting a portrait of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a task he performed while sitting face-to-face with the leader. His paintings have been showcased in prestigious exhibitions across the globe, including cities like Paris, London, Lausanne, New York, Zagreb, Tehran, Delhi, Shimla, Lahore, and Karachi.
In recognition of his contributions to art, Ahmed Saeed Nagi was honored with the President's Award for Pride of Performance. His legacy continues to inspire artists and art enthusiasts alike. Ahmed Saeed Nagi passed away in Karachi on this day in 2006.
