Australia has assured Muslim world of full support over the issue of Islamophobia saying the challenge should be taken seriously to bridge up the gap between Muslim community and rest of the world.
Australian Special Envoy at Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ambassador Ridwaan Jadwat in an exclusive interview with News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan said Australia is committed to the freedom of religion and protection of rights of the Muslims around the world.
He said there is a need to educate people that what is a true Islam and its teachings of peace and tolerance.
In reply to a question, he acknowledged that some stereotypes about Islam exist in western world and these should be removed.
The Australian envoy said a tiny minority has hijacked the true message of Islam but we will have to explain the world that Islam is a peace-loving and tolerant religion which protects rights of all people.
He said that the United Nations and Muslim countries must work together to ensure rights of all faith and people and discourage all discrimination and stereotypes.
The Australian Envoy said Muslim community is playing a very constructive role in diverse fields and increasingly being recognized in building a society.
He said Australia is offering good opportunities of education to Pakistani students and a significant number of students already enrolled in Australian institutions.
To another question, he said Pakistan and Australia are working to increase volume of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and there is lot of potential to harness opportunities in various sectors.
