Asim Calls for Balanced Global Counter-Terrorism Framework

New york: Pakistan has called for a balanced and rights-based global counter-terrorism framework. Speaking at the Ambassadorial-level consultations on UN80 and the future of the UN counter-terrorism (CT) architecture at the United Nations headquarters, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized the need for a robust United Nations’ counter-terrorism architecture. He highlighted its importance in addressing prolonged conflicts and ending injustice, oppression, and violations of international law that are often justified under the pretext of counter-terrorism.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad urged that the global community must clearly distinguish between acts of terrorism and the legitimate struggles against foreign occupation and the right to self-determination. He called for a framework that not only counters terrorism but also addresses the underlying conditions that contribute to its proliferation.
