Analyst Terms Court of Arbitration’s Decision in Indus Water Treaty as Pakistan’s Victory

Islamabad: Dr. Muhammad Khan Hague’s Court of Arbitration’s decision in the Indus Waters matter is on merit and quite expected because it is ascertained in the Indus Water Treaty that no country either India or Pakistan can suspend or abrogate the treaty unilaterally; any amendment or change can be done through mutual consensus between both the parties. Moreover it is also victory of Pakistan’s stance that India can neither unilaterally suspend the treaty.

According to Radio Pakistan, India committed clear violation of treaty and international law by setting the treaty in abeyance in February 2025. Now the court will have to implement its orders by India. Now Pakistan must fight the war now on legal front too. Now we are facing the monsoon havoc whereas under Indus Water Treaty, India is supposed to inform Pakistan about the quantity of water flowing towards Pakistan, but India is not doing this due to the suspension of treaty which is another violation of treaty.

Due to Indian actions, Pakistan can face fl
ood like situation. Moreover there are reports that India has stopped water flowing towards Pakistan of Chenab River and Amit Shah has also stated that India will not restore water flow towards Pakistan. He also said that India will construct a canal from Chenab towards Indian Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. It will again be violation of treaty. India has been violating the treaty by constructing water storage facilities at Western Rivers whose water is reserved for Pakistan exclusively under the Indus Water Treaty. Such violations of treaty by India must not continue because there is no law of the jungle in the world.
