Islamabad: It is an important development from Pakistan’s perspective as the country has assumed the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the current month, a role closely linked with regional peace and security. Although this responsibility is short-term, it is significant because Pakistan has consistently acted as a responsible state in the UN Security Council. Pakistan has always been a vocal advocate for the interests of the developing global south, given its status as a developing country, and now aims to enhance this responsibility further.
According to Radio Pakistan, the presidency will require Pakistan to play a crucial role in ensuring peace in South Asia and globally. This position is expected to boost Pakistan’s engagement with both developed and developing nations, countering efforts by some countries to isolate it. Pakistan’s sacrifices in the global war on terrorism have been significant, contributing to regional peace and security. Despite India’s portrayal of Pakistan as a p
romoter of terrorism, Pakistan has, in reality, been a major victim of terrorism itself.
