Islamabad: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema has directed the Ministry of Railways to fast-track the documentation process for the ML-1 Karachi-Rohri section project, emphasizing close coordination with the Asian Development Bank and Economic Affairs Division. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad today, Ahad Cheema reviewed the project's implementation framework and outlined measures to accelerate progress. He stressed that completing procedural requirements promptly is critical to securing ADB funding in the upcoming fiscal year.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ahad Cheema stated that the ML-1 project is a landmark initiative that will significantly enhance freight movement and strengthen railway services nationwide. The government is also engaging other development partners to support the remaining sections of ML-1 and aims to finalize agreements for the entire Karachi-to-Peshawar corridor.
Speaking at the meeting, ADB Country Director Emma Fan praised the efforts of the Economic Affairs Division and the Ministry of Railways in advancing the project. She reaffirmed the bank's commitment to facilitating swift documentation and minimizing review timelines to ensure timely implementation of this strategically important initiative.
