Aviation relations between Pakistan and Syria can be made stronger: Ghulam Sarwar Khan

Islamabad, June 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): Aviation relations between Pakistan and Syria can be made stronger. This was said by Federal Minister for Aviation, Ghulam Sarwar Khan during a meeting with Syrian Ambassador, Radwan Loutfi. Ambassador was of the point of view that Syria is very important for religious tourism. He said that nearly 25 to 30 thousand Pakistan pilgrims come to Syria yearly. But there are no direct flights between Pakistan and Damascus. He said Syria also gives visa on arrival. Syrian side wants to start direct flights on Karachi – Damascus route.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Federal Minister for Aviation added that on 4th February 2019, Aviation Division got the request from Syrian Civil Aviation Authority that designated Cham Wing airline, a private Syrian airline, intends to operate flights to Pakistan. Cham Wing Airline submitted fight schedule for three weekly flights from Damascus-Karachi-Damascus using A 320 aircrafts. Federal Minister for Aviation informed that the request of the airline is within the agreed arrangements between Pakistan and Syria. But after consulting all stake holders, permission to Cham Wing will be given.

Air Services Agreement between Pakistan and Syria was signed on 23rd July 1954. The existing bilateral arrangements permit the designated airlines of both sides following traffic rights. For the designated Airlines of Pakistan there are 7 weekly flight frequency from points in Pakistan to Damascus and two other points of choice and vice versa. Similarly, for the designated airlines of Syria, from points in Syria to Karachi and vice versa 3 weekly frequencies, from points in Syria to Lahore and vice versa 02 weekly frequencies and from points in Syria to Islamabad and vice versa 2 weekly frequencies are allowed.
