Srinagar, April 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the use of brute force against the detainees at Central Jail Srinagar. Several detainees lodged in Srinagar Central Jail were injured due to the use of brute force against the protesting inmates on Thursday evening.
The protests had erupted in the jail after the word about shifting of some prisoners to the prisons outside the Kashmir valley spread. Indian police and troops fired pellets and teargas shells on the protesting detainees, injuring several of them. Three barracks and a building suffered damages amid a number of blasts inside the jail.
The forum spokesman in a statement in Srinagar termed the use of force as ultimate repression on part of the jail authorities. He said that the assault against detainees had raised the apprehensions that they were living under a great risk and faced threat to their lives.
Meanwhile, the court of Principal and Sessions Judge Srinagar has directed the authorities of Central Jail, Srinagar, to permit and facilitate visit of a group of lawyers to the prison to inquire about well-being of the prisoners. The court directions came after Advocate Nazir Ahmed Ronga filed an application, praying for directions to the jail authorities to allow him to meet the detainees. In his application, Advocate Ronga submitted before the court that reports coming about the occurrence of incidents at the jail are disturbing.
The court granted him permission with directives to jail authorities to allow him and facilitate his visit along with other lawyers. On the other hand, the United Jihad Council in a statement condemned the use of brute force against the prisoners at Srinagar Central Jail and appealed to the world human rights organizations to take notice of the matter.
